A day tour to Teriberka and The Arctic ocean

This place is definitely worth visiting both in winter and summer! The beautiful nature of the Arctic Ocean shores with sandy beaches and beaches of boulders hewn with winter storms, curious seals and many seabirds. Fans of military history can vizit the old artillery battery which protected the settlement of attacks from the sea.
Teriberka is one of the oldest settlements on the Kola Peninsula, its origin dates back to the 16th century. Over the years it has been an important center of fishing and trade.
Teriberka, which for some reasons has fallen into decay and was half-abandoned, recently has become one of the most favorite places to visit by Russian and foreign tourists. "The Leviathan" film, which was shot in these places, played a large role in it.

Tour details

Meeting
Our guide and a comfortable transport meet you at the hotel in Murmansk. Gathering of the group takes 15-30 minutes.
Start
Usually we hit the road at 8:30 - 9:30. There are more than 90 km of tarmac and 30 km of dirt road ahead. During the Polar Night we try to get to Teriberka by the beginning of a short daylight hours.
Holw long takes the road?
The journey takes about 2.5 hours but you won't get bored! You will hear a detailed story about the history of the development of the Kola North, its natural and geographical features, the peoples inhabiting it. And, of course, about the history of Teriberka itself from antiquity to the present day.
Stops during the ride
Depending on the season, we make 2-4 stops. There is much to see and take pictures of:
- wind power plant at the turn to Teriberka: more than 50 wind power generators with a height of about 140 meters
- park of stone pyramids
- dam of the Verkhneteribersky reservoir
- Seid, the sacred Sami flying stone
Lodeynoye and the coast
In summer we drive along the dirt road to the coast by car. In winter, leaving the car at the start of the sleigh track, we either get to the coast by snowmobile or take a walk for about 1.5 km. There is a legendary beach with huge boulders polished by the surf and sea storms and the "Dragon's Lair" grotto.
Small Battery Lake Waterfall
A little more than a kilometer from the beach to the waterfall in a beautiful granite gorge. And the reward for the most curious and persistent is a magnificent panoramic view of the Teriberka bay from the top of the hill!
Coastal defense battery No. 199
If the weather conditions are favourable, in half an hour's walk from the waterfall lovers of military history will find 4 guns that defended the approach to the harbor in the 30s-50s of the last century. From there the best view of the entire water area opens from the island of Kildin in the far west to the lighthouse on Teriberka cape in the east.
Will we see whales?
In spring and summer it is from the battery that you can best see if there are large marine life nearby. But will we see them? Of course, we have binoculars with 20x magnification with us!
Time for a bite
We walked up and return to the car. Here we will have hot tea and sweets to recuperate.
Ship graveyard
The old fishing boats, the toilers of the sea of old, we visit when the low tide reveals their skeletons. Very interesting pictures are obtained against their background. A picturesque place, but time is especially merciless to it.
Teriberka
Finally we are here. Not much is left of the old village of Teriberka: uninhabited rickety wooden houses, an abandoned school and ... new restaurants, holiday houses, various art objects for every taste, a magnificent sandy beach. Everything is nearby: you can walk, take countless photos, admire the surf and, if you're lucky, seals in the water, have a snack in a restaurant or feed the deer on the farm, go to the neighboring cove along a new road ... this is where our excursion ends, and the road is ahead home to Murmansk.
Attention, services for snowmobile delivery (approx. 1500 rub./person) to the coast and meals at the restaurant are not included in the basic price of the excursion!
